6:17 pm - It's Super Bowl Sunday and the Rai-Duhs are getting smoked.  On to other
matters....

Just read an article about irate single mothers marching on Sacramento demanding -
demanding! - that their child care payments continue despite the mountains of red ink in
the California budget.  Just where do these people get off?  I've got a news flash for stupid
women: if your sperm donor of a boyfriend creates a couple kids and then leaves for
greener pastures, don't have Gray Davis and his buddies reach into my pocket to pay for
your stupidity.  Well, they'll probably do so anyway, but don't think that I'll be happy
keeping your rug-rats from eating dog food under a freeway overpass.

My letter to the paper:
To the Editor:

One has to be dismayed at the ingrained sense of entitlement among those relying on state subsidized child
care [Proposals Spare Child Care Funds, Jan. 16].  Women like single mother Katti Conde see nothing wrong
with protesting for a continuation of such benefits paid for by millions of strangers that have never met her
two unfortunate children.  While it is encouraging to know that she is at least making an effort to work for
the subsidy, no one seems to question why people are forced to support her poor life choices to begin
with.

Where are her family and friends during the crisis?  Why is she not seeking help from charitable
organizations that at least have the virtue of obtaining their funding from willing donors?  If she's a widower,
why didn't she and her husband take out an insurance policy before they started a family?  If her
husband/boyfriend turned out to be a loser who abandoned them, why is it everyone else's duty to keep
her afloat?

The price we pay for socializing bad choices is an increase in the very thing we want to prevent.  This moral
hazard is bad enough, but now we must endure ungrateful recipients running to politicians to confiscate
the wealth of others by force without so much as a thank you.  Well, you're welcome, Ms. Conde.  I hope
your children learn the right lesson from your experience.
